Moddb Mod Of The Year 2019

Posted on

ModDb’s Mod of The Year contest is the largest celebration of hobbyist, amateur and pro modders on the planet. Fittingly, every year has outpaced the previous in terms of development, and 2010 might have seen the largest crop of mods on record.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Chernobyla mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat created by TeamEpic. It’s an immense sandbox mod that includes 32 maps, customizable weather for every map, different play modes, character creation, new achievement, ranking and reputation systems and more.

Breathing down the winner’s neck in second place was Enderala mod for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim created by SureAI. Enderal is a total conversion mod for Skyrim that takes place in its own unique world. It’s a sequel to the Nehrim: At Fate's Edge mod. New DLC for Enderal called Forgotten Stories is in development with an expected 2017 release.

If that’s not enough, Mod DB lists and links an additional 21 mods that received Honorable Mentions.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making the mods that made either the top ten or the list of honorable mentions. Congratulations also to the Mod DB community. At the time of this writing there were 66 comments on the Mod of the Year Awards and with the single exception of a comment that was awaiting approval, every single one was positive and congratulatory.

Gaming communities often receive media attention for behavior that is ugly, juvenile and disgraceful. It’s refreshing to see a group of dedicated gamers that have nothing but good things to say about the people who make the games they love.

Mod of the Year Awards

First I want to take the time to thank each and every one of you that voted for the mod in the Mod of the Year award! We made it to number 5 on the Players Choice award and that makes me feel good. A craftman's always happy to hear his work is appreciated, to quote Pirates of the Caribbean, and I feel like the Empire at War Remake mod has earned its place in the list.

But of course, it wasn't just me and the voters that made it happen, but also all the modders that have helped and supported and contributed over the years! Some honerable mentions have to be made! The cliche 'It couldn't have happened without you' is absolutely true, I learned so much over the years from so many people that even though I call the mod a one-man-project, it is the culmination of the efforts of many people who've added value to my life over the years. I simply can't leave you guys out:
Special thank you goes out to Shimrra, who has ever been our friend and ally. For all the great shit talk and great advice he's given over the years.
Thank you to Megabalta, together we made some mind blowing particles. May he forever fuck ducks.
Thank you to Enpremi, the Hypeforger, the man with the unorthedox ideas that turn into awesome stuff. Without you there'd be no awesome engine glows, and I don't want to live in a world without the new engine effects.
Thank you to Farseer and Warb Null, without which I'd have never started modding. Thank you getting me started, for the great advice over the years, for all the amazing free released content, and being all-around stand-up people. Several people in the Empire at War community including me could take some notes from you two.
Thank you to EmperorNiko, for all the hours of cooperation, and being there when shit needs to get done, I wouldn't want my Discord server without you.
'Nomada suck a dick.' is what I used to say years in the past, but you were definitely a memorable part of my time in modding, so therefor, on this day we say, thank you Nomada.
Thank you to Arvis and Adamancy, who've helped me with student loans by commissioning some awesome content from me, a lot of which is still in the mod today! I'm very glad you two chose the projects you did, because some of my all-time favourite creations came from those commissions!
Thank you to the Awakening of the Rebellion team, Steiner & Co. who always offer great talk, and even better ideas. You guys were crucial experimenting with some of my now favourite special effects, such as the volumetric lighting that's used on many starships!
Thank you to that asshole who made Old Republic at War, he sometimes had some good ideas that were poorly executed that required much refinement but were ultimately pretty useful. Terrible attitude.
Thank you to Elratie and Doci, for being perpetually awesome, the modelling and texturing duo, and creating content that makes me feel happy inside when looking at it. And for teaching me how to use Substance painter, and how to be a better modeller. You guys rock. May your textures be ever awesome and your poly counts high!
Thank you to Kad Venku, for being always open to questions and requests for help, your help on several of Remakes issues is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to Karcov, for all our talks, discussions, and your contributions over the years.
Thank you to Burntstrobe. Your planet textures are nice. Without you I'd have never said 'These ship models are just collecting dust.' and decide to rig them and by extension, make the Remake mod just to let them have some purpose. You're literally the cause of the first action in a long string of actions that brings us here! Now that's something to be thankful for.
Thank you to all you glorious fuckers for funding the Executor, even though I kinda used all that extra time to go on a modding frenzy and finish the mod instead of building the Executor but it'll be done! Without that influx of time and awesomeness the mod wouldn't have been done until much much later, actually it'd probably still not be out. You guys gave me the chance to work work work on my beloved mod and release it before university began again. 'Without you the mod wouldn't have released.' sounds cheesy as fuck but it's absolutely true. Thank you for hanging around on our Discord server, where I am every day, and for forming our awesome community. And thank the gods for the Screenshot channel there. For new people, join here to talk about all things empire at war, star wars, or just hanging around and talking with people: Discord.gg

Moddb Mod Of The Year 2019 Release

Now, onto the 0.95 Patch!

This patch will make the game feel like new, trust me. Major changes. Just tremendous changes. These have been the best changes in the history of changes, maybe ever. Build a wall around the Rebel scum and make the Consortium pay for it.

Joking aside, here is something resembling a changelog:

Major changes include an entirely new camera system that'll make the game feel a lot more cinematic! This is really a massive change. Additionally, new projectile sizes and speed. Turbolasers and ion cannons have been sped up. Population cap changed to 50 from 40. Fighter AI has changed so now they're more useful.

Smaller changes include:
Fighters like the TIE Interceptor and X wing now have fighters in their squadrons that fire all weapons at once instead of one after the other. So some X wings will now have quad linked laser fire instead of firing each laser individually. Firepower remains unchanged, same amount of fire per sec.

X wing now fires a proton torpedo. Purely for show, it only does 15% damage of a normal proton torpedo. NOW SHUT UP ABOUT IT!

Several xplosion particles have been slightly sized down. ARC-170 now fires green lasers instead of red. Annihilator (Purifier) is now 50 pop points to reflect its power level with the increased projectile speed, its fighter garrison has been increased to compensate. Weaken enemy from the Sund Heart now has a dope new particle effect, as does the Aggressor Destroyers plasma and ion blast cannons. Menu battle now has a Titan instead of the Purifier so it loads faster. Fuck slow loading. TIE fire sound effect now no longer ear shattering. Consortium level 5 starbase now fires missiles. Thrawn's Assault ability now less OP in combination with regular intensify firepower ability. Luke Skywalker and Rogue Squadrons X wings now do a lot more damage. Still get creamed by diamond boron missiles. Don't fly your heroes into diamond boron missiles. I feel like this is a no brainer but I keep hearing people bitch about it. Escort carrier now more expensive to compensate for faster turbolaser shots. Some text changes have been made to reflect the new info.
